2020 EU Blue Economy Report
The 2020 EU Blue Economy Report from the European Commission analyses the size of the Blue Economy in the European Union, covering both established and emerging maritime sectors.
The report recognises the vast untapped sources of renewable energy that the oceans provide. It confirms the EU’s global leadership in the sector: the EU hosts 58% of global tidal energy technology developers and 61% of the global wave energy developers. This counts to over 430 European companies that are involved in different stages of the ocean energy supply chain, with an estimate of 2,250 jobs supported by the sector across Europe.
The report estimates that the sector will recover promptly from the COVID-19 pandemic and can contribute to the economic recovery.
