IEA-OES: Tidal current energy – Developments & highlights

The IEA-OES brochure ‘Tidal current energy – Developments & highlights’ presents 13 examples of cross-cutting tidal energy projects developed around the world.

The first pilot farms have been generating electricity since 2016, accumulating experience on long-term operation and cost-efficient maintenance procedures. Several successful single device demonstration projects will soon be followed by a next wave of pilot farms.

While most of the deployments are located in Europe, first-of-a-kind projects have also hit the water in the US, Canada, China and the Republic of Korea.

All of these projects contribute to reducing the costs of tidal energy technology, delivering local economic benefits and accelerating market uptake.
